Precious Child - Poem for Newtown, CT

Precious Children

Precious children,

fragile rosebuds
kissed by the dew,
opening slowly
to the promised sun,

lives just begun,

tender roots
brought early strength,

stems,
like outstretched arms,
sought the world’s
embrace,

precious children,
fragile rosebuds
kissed by the dew,

we mourn the loss of you.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families in Newtown, CT
who suffered such a tragic loss on December 14, 2012.

  1. Rita,
The most withering portion of this dedication is this:
"stems, like outstretched arms, sought the world's embrace." Yes - YES. We, as a world, have to respond to those innocent, beautiful outstretched arms in every waking moment, and on every human level. This is so touching and so true.
