Poem: Simple Gifts

Simple Gifts

Simple gifts

Are best,

A cup of tea with thee,

Long talks of then and now

And how

The time has passed,

Grateful for the little things

That touch the heart,

The way a simple

Cup of tea

Somehow sets one free,

And all the rest just drops away,

At least

For one fine day.

Poem - Wonder Girl

 Wonder Girl

The questions flow with earnest ease
from a girl who just turned five,

she wonders why she’s on the ground,
when birds can fly so high,
she wonders where the rainbow ends,
and why she loves fresh pie,
she wonders how the flowers grow
when summer days draw ‘nigh,
she wonders what she ought to do
when a good friend starts to cry,
she wonders why some folks are bad
and why they sometimes lie,

she thinks we ought to live in peace,
she says we ought to try.

Poem: All Things Are Revealed In Time

Live Oak with Spanish Moss - Savannah © Rita Bourland 2013

All Things Are Revealed in Time

All things are revealed in time,

hints are strewn along
the path we walk,

a polished stone
washed pure in a rippling stream,

a graceful branch
providing shade,

a child’s eyes
upturned in awe-filled wonder
at the moon and stars,
an owl in flight,
the dark of night,

it’s there in spring delights
as all things rise anew,

if we touch the soil,
kiss the rose,
breathe the air,
embrace the good
along the path,
we will find the hints
that almost shout
the glory of God’s name.

so trust and know,

all things are revealed
in time.
