Poem: Something Lasting

Artwork by Diane Phalen @  www.dianephalen.com
 Something Lasting

Cotton blocks
Pieced together,

Busy hands
Take needle, thread,
Move to and fro,
Up and down,
With rhythmic
Timing,
Small
Perfect stitches,
Sewn with purpose,
Connecting
Loving thoughts,
Through fabric, batting, backing,
Creating beauty,
Warmth,
Something lasting,

We stitch our lives
From day to day,
Making
Memories,
Families,
Histories,
Sewing
Love,
Warmth,
Sweetness,
Beauty,

Creating
Something of worth,
Something lasting,

Quilting a life.

  1. I like this one very much. Your poetry just gets better and better. Like you. :-)

  2. This poem beautifully gives a new twist on discovering purpose -- day-to-day life often feels random, but when looked at as a whole, our lives are filled with pattens.

  3. Judy, the patterns do seem to exist when looked at with some perspective. Sometimes it is difficult to see when we are in the middle of day to day life. You make a very good point.
