I’ve Witnessed Bravery

I’ve witnessed bravery,

bending to power

without breaking,

smiling at injustice,
 knowing truth will prevail,
 

I’ve witnessed bravery,

laying down its sword,

allowing words to smite its foes,

rising without armor,

risking harm yet standing firm,

 I’ve witnessed bravery,

caught in a swirling eddy,

seeking light where darkness lurks,

finding solace in a song

hoping God will hear,

 I’ve witnessed bravery,

and it has humbled me,

for it resides in the heart

of a friend.
